Arrived in America, Have a Chinese blog now

Thursday, August 21st, 2008

After some 12 hours flight I arrived at Los Angeles International airport. My friend’s friend’s friend Mr.John Chen was very kind to wait for me passing the customs and immigration which took almost 2 hours…

Nice and safe. I am starting my Southern California life now. Time goes fast. Two years from now, maybe I will be going somewhere else. Who knows.

I am writting a Chinese blog too. Go check out http://cn.alanhtang.com hehe, see you there.

Can Nepal trip be a reality?

Tuesday, June 3rd, 2008

One of my friends asked me to go on a spiritual trip. I think it is a wonderful idea. I think most temples in China are a bit too commercial recently. Nepal has just changed from a kingdom to a democratic republic, thus no kings but government by the people, for the people and of the people (well, in principle, we have to see how it goes). I have a college friend, and she is from Nepal. She’s been to China before and I asked her to be my information source.

There is still some craziness about my plan in July and August. I hope things will go well and I can make this trip in July…

Keep writing

Saturday, March 8th, 2008

I have to confess that I didn’t get high ratings often on writing classes in Chinese when I was in school until the last year of high school when I had to prepare for the college entrance exam. Recently I started to understand the importance of writing. So I think writing more often is a good idea. For my own good. I think I’ll keep writing in both Chinese and English, depends on my thinking process.

By Aug 2008, I will be back in China for 3 years. It’s been a exciting and somewhat difficult experience. But I have learned a lot about my own country. It’s been doing me a lot of good. If I stayed in Europe, it could be harder for me to adjust to the life here when I return later.

It’s still hard for me to judge where exactly the opportunity for China is since I only worked for two employers, and they are both Dutch companies. I somehow feel starting up business should be the best idea. Chinese government has some program to promote business created by Chinese student returned from overseas. I looked into some of the specifics in the program and made some contact. I think with the right people and right project the success factor is quite high. Keep watching and keep looking. And of course, more importantly, start doing and learning by doing:).

Fighting The Day after Tomorrow

Right now, the whole China (at least the south, where cold winter weather is rare) is fighting the freezing winter weather. My hometown Yueyang is at the north tip of the worst affected province, Hunan. Going back home was a scary thing for me. One city called Chenzhou had been without water and electricity supply for 8 days. 27 thousand vehicles had been stranded (tbc) on the highway for 3 days along 160 KM. Thousands and maybe millions of people are suffering from the extreme winter weather.

Am I able to go home?

Monday, January 28th, 2008

Is it the first wave of global warning hitting China? Right now my biggest concerns are:

  1. My flight from Paris CDG airport need to land Shanghai PVG airport on Jan 31. A friend of mine flying earlier from UK to Beijing landed Ji’nan instead… God bless me to land Shanghai safely.
  2. I need to go home for the Chinese new year which is the Western equivalent of Christmas. My flight is on Feb 4. After the plane lands, I need to take a bus to my hometown which is about 130 KM from the airport. Right now the airport in Changsha is closed, and will be closed for 96 hours in total, affect almost 10 K passengers. Highways closed too. Fingers crossed. I need to fly on that day then take a bus home…

Thursday, January 3rd, 2008

An interesting conversation today

Friday, December 21st, 2007

A: I probably have invested thousands of dollars in getting anxiety, self-doubt and disappointment.

B: At least, you invested in hope, didn’t you?

A: G….

Key takeaway: There is no guarantee in life,  work hard and hope for the best. Most importantly, enjoy life:D. As the famous Chiense proverb goes: “One Horse Lost May Be a Herd of Them Gained” (塞翁失马, 焉知非福?).  Moreover, patience is virtue.

1st Week in Caen, France

Sunday, November 18th, 2007

First day in Caen
