A post for a friend leaving Shanghai

Saturday, August 18th, 2007

Long time friend actually. I just saw her new blog at http://xy24ing.blog.sohu.com/ good work, please keep it going.

Believe it or not, writing is harder than you think, and writing in English which is our secondary language makes it even harder. I think blogging is an excellent way to improve your writing skills however at the beginning  it is hard to see improvements. Since most of your friends need a little while to get use to you writing in English and few people ever bother to correct your mistakes. My piece of advice is try to start writing. Keep it going and build up your audience network over time. I am not a good example of blogging because I don’t blog frequently enough:).  I believe 5 years from now on, blogggers will have a far more radical impact on our society.

I am writing this blog in my lovely real home back in Yueyang city. The weather is nice here. The original plan was to bring my mum to Changsha and the family can spend the weekend there. But then my dad changed his mind, and here I am:D. Mum made lunch for us, and it was soooo good, haven’t had a proper meal like this for months…

Bonus video for you XY shadow of the day from LP. Always believe the difficulty we are facing is only temporary. Always look for the better and strive for the best. Passion makes a difference.

Looking for jobs? Part I

Thursday, August 2nd, 2007

The title is not exactly what I plan to write in this post. I meant to write a post for a while about jobs, my decision to come back to China after graduated in Belgium, some of my experience working in Shanghai and some other job related topics. Recently I got quite inspired by some of the events as following:

  1. A college friend got some nice offers from some prestigious companies. She wrote an very interesting post about her job hunting experience in the Netherlands and some of her thoughts on job application, assessments and so on.
  2. A college friend called the other day to complain it’s too hard to find a technical job here for Chinese students overseas. This reminded me similar experience I got from a college friend last year.
  3. I heard students graduated this year got some very good jobs in Belgium

So as the first of the series I wrote my motivation of writing such series. In the coming series I will be telling my reason for coming back fresh graduated and some of my views on Chinese/Shanghai (technical) job market. Stay tuned :).
